NEPRA 2026 Net-Metering Equipment Checklist Pakistan — Complete List

NEPRA's 2025 Prosumer Regulations (effective February 2026) rewrote the rules for grid-tied solar in Pakistan. Existing solar customers who applied before the SRO keep their old buyback rate of Rs 25.32/unit. New applicants get only Rs 8.13/unit — but more critically, the equipment requirements changed: Type B residual current devices became mandatory, DC isolators are required at every string, AC SPDs are required at the inverter output, and the bi-directional meter must meet IEC 62053-22 Class 1 accuracy. Miss any single requirement and your DISCO inspection fails.

This is the complete NEPRA 2026 net-metering equipment checklist for Pakistani prosumers — every device required between the panel and the grid meter, with CNC part numbers for each. Print this before your DISCO inspection.

2. DC string-side equipment (per PV string)

2.1 DC Breaker

Sized at 1.25× string Isc, voltage rating > Voc × 1.25. Full DC breaker guide.

  • Typical 5 kW residential: CNC YCB8 16A 500V PV from PKR 1,600
  • Typical 10 kW residential: CNC YCB8 25A 1000V PV from PKR 3,400
  • Industrial 1500V: CNC YCB8 32A 1500V PV from PKR 8,500

2.2 DC Fuse

gPV class, sized per IEC 60269-6. Inline 10×38 or 14×51 cartridge.

  • Typical residential: CNC YCF8 PV 16A 1000V from PKR 1,800
  • Industrial: CNC YCF8 PV 25A 1500V from PKR 3,200

2.3 DC SPD (per string)

Type II Class C, voltage rating >= 1.5× Voc. SPD selection guide.

2.4 DC Isolator (upstream of inverter)

  • 1500V industrial: CNC YIS-DC-63-4P-1500V from PKR 8,500

3. Battery-side equipment (hybrid systems only)

  • DC Breaker 100–200A — sized for max battery discharge current. CNC YCB8 100A 500V from PKR 4,200.
  • DC Isolator — for maintenance. CNC YIS-DC-100-2P-500V from PKR 5,500.
  • DC SPD — if battery cabling runs outdoors. CNC YCS6-DC-500V from PKR 3,800.
  • BMS — usually integrated in the lithium battery itself. See lithium battery guide.

4. Inverter requirements

The inverter itself must meet NEPRA 2026 specs:

  • Anti-islanding per IEC 62116 — inverter automatically disconnects from grid within 2 seconds of grid loss
  • Voltage/frequency ride-through per IEC 61727 — inverter maintains connection during minor grid disturbances
  • Power quality: total harmonic distortion < 5% per IEC 61727
  • Anti-reverse polarity on PV inputs

5. AC-side equipment (inverter output to grid)

5.1 AC Breaker

Sized at 1.25× inverter output current. AC breaker guide.

  • 5 kW single-phase: CNC YCB7 2P 32A from PKR 900
  • 10 kW 3-phase: CNC YCB7 4P 25A from PKR 1,900

5.2 RCBO Type B (NEPRA 2026 mandatory)

Detects smooth DC leakage that Type AC and Type A miss — required where the inverter's DC bus could leak DC into the grid. RCBO guide.

5.3 AC SPD (Type II)

  • 1-phase: CNC YCS6-T2-1P 20kA from PKR 2,500

  • 3-phase + N: CNC YCS6-T2-4P 40kA from PKR 8,800

5.4 AC Isolator

  • 1-phase 32A: CNC YIS-AC-32-2P from PKR 950
  • 3-phase 63A: CNC YIS-AC-63-4P from PKR 2,450

6. Grid interface (DISCO-supplied)

  • Bi-directional energy meter: DISCO installs at meter point after net-metering application approval. Must meet IEC 62053-22 Class 1 (residential) or Class 0.5 (commercial).
  • Sealed enclosure: DISCO inspector verifies that meter and surrounding cabling are tamper-sealed.

7. Earthing & lightning protection

  • Earth electrode: copper rod minimum 1.5m driven into ground. CNC YCS6-LA-GROUND kit PKR 12,500.
  • Earth resistance: must be < 10 ohm per IEC 60364-5-54. Test with earth-fault loop tester before DISCO inspection.
  • Bonding: all metal parts (panel frames, mounting rails, inverter chassis, DB box) bonded to earth electrode.
  • Lightning rod (if building has rooftop array on a metal-roof or in lightning-prone area like Islamabad, Peshawar): CNC YCS6-LA-ROD copper PKR 4,500 + down-conductor PKR 850/m.

8. The pre-inspection checklist (print this)

  1. ☐ DC breakers installed per PV string with correct voltage + current rating
  2. ☐ DC fuses installed inline with each string
  3. ☐ DC SPDs installed on PV side (and battery side if hybrid)
  4. ☐ DC isolator installed upstream of inverter, lockable
  5. ☐ Hybrid inverter has IEC 62116 anti-islanding certification (visible on datasheet)
  6. ☐ Battery (if applicable) has integrated BMS and proper DC protection on cabling
  7. ☐ AC breaker sized for inverter output, installed at output
  8. ☐ Type B RCBO installed on solar feed (NOT Type AC or Type A — auto-fail)
  9. ☐ AC SPD Type II installed at inverter output sub-DB
  10. ☐ AC isolator installed upstream of grid connection point
  11. ☐ Earth electrode driven, resistance verified < 10 ohm
  12. ☐ All metal parts bonded to earth (test continuity)
  13. ☐ All cabling sized correctly per NEPRA distance + current tables
  14. ☐ Single-line diagram printed and signed by Pakistan-licensed electrical engineer
  15. ☐ Equipment list with serial numbers attached to single-line diagram
  16. ☐ Lightning rod (if applicable) installed and connected to dedicated earth

10. FAQ

Will DISCO inspectors accept Tomzn or generic Daraz breakers for NEPRA 2026 net-metering?

Officially yes if the manufacturer certifies IEC compliance. In practice, DISCO inspectors prefer documented IEC certifications. CNC's full IEC paperwork (60947-2, 60898-1, 61009, 62423, 61643-11) is well-known to DISCO offices and approvals are routine. Generic brands sometimes need extra documentation, slowing approval.

Can I do my own DISCO inspection prep or do I need a licensed electrician?

You must engage a Pakistan-licensed electrical engineer to sign the single-line diagram. You can do the install yourself but the diagram and electrical-engineer sign-off are mandatory.

What's the DISCO inspection turnaround?

Typical 2-4 weeks from application submission to inspection visit. Pass rate first time: ~70% with proper CNC equipment install, ~40% with generic equipment.

What's the most-missed requirement causing DISCO rejection?

Type B RCBO is the #1 cause of NEPRA 2026 rejection in our experience. Many existing installs use Type AC; inspectors check this specifically. Replace with CNC YCB10 Type B before re-applying.

Do I need lightning protection for a small 5 kW install?

Not strictly required by NEPRA, but recommended for Islamabad / Peshawar / mountain regions where ground-strike density is high. Type II AC SPD is sufficient for low-strike areas.
