Unlike the bulky magnetic contactors used to start industrial motors, a modular contactor is designed to live neatly on a DIN rail alongside your breakers, run quietly, and switch lighting and heating loads reliably thousands of times.

What a modular contactor is (and isn't)

A contactor is an electrically operated switch: energise its coil and it closes its main contacts, feeding power to the load; de-energise the coil and it opens. A modular contactor is the version built to MCB form factor — it clips onto the same DIN rail as your circuit breakers and takes up a slim number of module widths.

The important distinction: modular contactors are made for resistive and lighting loads — lighting circuits, heaters, geysers, small pumps, signage — where the job is clean, quiet on/off control from a distribution board. They are not the same as the heavy magnetic (CJX2-type) contactors used to start three-phase motors, which handle the large inrush and are rated for motor duty. If you're switching lights, heating or a home-automation circuit, you want a modular contactor. If you're starting a motor, you want a magnetic motor-duty contactor and its overload relay instead.

YCCH6 vs YCCH7: standard or manual override

The YCCH7's manual override gives you a three-way front selector: O (forced off), auto (the coil controls it as normal), and I / I+P (forced on). That's genuinely handy — if a timer fails or you need the lights on for maintenance regardless of the control signal, you flick the override rather than rewiring. The YCCH6 has no override and is the simpler, lower-cost choice where automatic control is all you need.

Range: poles and current

Both come in 2-pole and 4-pole versions across a range of current ratings — 2-pole for single-phase lighting and heating circuits, 4-pole for three-phase or larger banks. YCCH6 spans roughly 16–100 A and YCCH7 16–63 A. Pick the current rating to comfortably exceed the load current of the circuit it switches.
