3-Phase WiFi Breaker — Pakistan Quick Answer (May 2026)

For Pakistani 3-phase homes, shops, or factories, the CNC YCB9ZF 4P 100A WiFi breaker at PKR 32,000 is the entry option — connects to Tuya Smart app, controls ON/OFF + scheduling + per-phase voltage/current monitoring + trip alerts on phone. Works with Alexa and Google Home. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi (not 5 GHz). Pair with a separate 3-phase voltage protector for over/under-voltage cut-off, since YCB9ZF only protects against overload and short circuit (not voltage swings). For 3-phase factory mains above 100A, use MCCB-class with a separate smart controller — WiFi breakers don't go higher than 100A.

A 3-phase WiFi breaker in Pakistan costs between Rs.12,400 and Rs.53,500 depending on amp rating and features. It is a 4-pole smart circuit breaker built to protect and control 3-phase 400V loads — submersible pumps, factory motors, commercial mains, large AC chillers, welding machines, and 3-phase solar inverters. This guide is for people who already know they have a 3-phase supply and need to understand exactly what a 3-phase WiFi breaker does, when to use 4P instead of 3P, how to wire it safely, and which CNC model fits which job.

3-Phase Supply in Pakistan — Quick Context

Most homes in Pakistan run on single-phase 230V supply. Commercial premises, factories, farms with tube wells, and larger buildings often get 3-phase 400V supply instead. Three live wires plus a neutral, each live running at 230V to neutral and 400V between any two lives. Industrial machines, 3-phase motors, and big pumps need this supply because single-phase cannot deliver the power density or torque they require.

If your supply meter shows three live terminals and a neutral, and your main breaker is marked 3P or 4P, you have a 3-phase connection. Any WiFi smart breaker you install on the incoming side of that supply has to be 4-pole to switch all three lives plus the neutral together.

3 Pole vs 4 Pole — What's the Difference

This trips up a lot of people in Pakistan. A 3-pole breaker switches the three live wires but leaves the neutral connected. A 4-pole breaker switches all three lives plus the neutral. For most 3-phase loads you actually want 4P, not 3P, even if the load itself is pure 3-phase.

Type What It Switches Where to Use
3 Pole (3P) 3 lives only (L1, L2, L3) Pure 3-phase motors, pumps, compressors where the neutral doesn't carry load
4 Pole (4P) 3 lives plus neutral (L1, L2, L3, N) 3-phase mains, mixed 3-phase + single-phase loads, full building feeders, safety isolation, solar inverters

If in doubt, pick 4P. It costs about 15% more but gives you full isolation including the neutral, which is what you need for complete safety disconnect during maintenance, for TN-C-S grounding systems, and for anywhere the neutral might carry unbalanced current from mixed single-phase loads sharing the same panel.

The CNC 4P WiFi smart breakers are 4P100A units designed for the 400V 3-phase supply common in Pakistan.

CNC 3-Phase WiFi Breaker Price List in Pakistan

Model Rating Features Price
YCB9ZF 4P 4P 100A Tuya WiFi, remote on/off, energy meter, over/under voltage cut-off Rs.12,400
Display 4P 100A 4P 100A Above plus built-in LCD display showing live voltage, current, kWh Rs.43,500
4G + WiFi 4P 4P 100A Above plus 4G SIM backup so remote control works without internet Rs.53,500

All three are rated at 100A which is enough for most 3-phase loads in Pakistan up to about 60 kW. For loads above that you move into 3P or 4P MCCB territory.

When You Actually Need a 3-Phase WiFi Breaker

Tube wells and submersible pumps

A 2 HP to 15 HP submersible pump is almost always 3-phase in Pakistan because single-phase pumps above 3 HP run too hot and burn out. A 4P WiFi breaker on the pump feeder lets you start and stop it from your phone, schedule it for early morning or solar hours, and get alerts if the motor trips on overload. Current monitoring in the app catches dry-run conditions before the pump burns, which is the single most common way Pakistani farmers lose pumps.

Factory and workshop mains

Small factories and workshops in Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, and Sialkot usually run on 3-phase with production line machines pulling 10–50A each. A 4P 100A WiFi breaker on the main incoming lets the owner cut power to the whole line at night, schedule machine-on time for the morning shift, and monitor total factory kWh remotely. Saves manual work, cuts bills, and catches unusual consumption patterns early.

Commercial building incoming

Shopping plazas, offices, and commercial buildings running on 3-phase mains use 4P WiFi breakers to control entire floors or sections. The building manager can cut power to unused floors at night, schedule lighting and AC circuits, and see real-time energy usage per section. For buildings with mixed tenant billing, it also makes per-section kWh data easy to collect.

Solar hybrid inverter feeds

Larger residential and commercial solar setups use 3-phase hybrid inverters to handle 10 kW+ systems. A 4P WiFi breaker between the inverter output and the building mains lets the operator switch between solar and grid sources, cut power during maintenance, and monitor per-phase load balance. Important for systems where the installer and owner are different people and the owner wants visibility without visiting site.

Farmhouses and remote properties

A farmhouse or rural property on 3-phase supply, far from the owner's city home, needs the 4G + WiFi version. During the monsoon season when local cellular and WiFi both go down, the 4G SIM fallback keeps control alive so the owner can still switch off pumps and lights without driving two hours to site.

How to Size a 3-Phase WiFi Breaker

Sizing a 3-phase breaker is not a guess. The formula is straightforward:

Full Load Current (A) = Power (W) / (√3 × 400V × Power Factor)
For a typical motor: PF ~ 0.85, so FLC ≈ Power (W) / 588

Then add 25% for starting surge and nuisance-trip margin. Round up to the next standard breaker rating.

Worked examples:

  • 5 HP submersible pump (3,700W): FLC ≈ 3700 / 588 = 6.3A. Add 25% margin → 7.9A. Round up → 10A breaker.
  • 10 HP tube well (7,500W): FLC ≈ 12.8A. Add margin → 16A breaker.
  • 25 HP factory motor (18,600W): FLC ≈ 31.6A. Add margin → 40A breaker.
  • 50 HP chiller (37,300W): FLC ≈ 63.4A. Add margin → 80A breaker.
  • Whole factory incoming (60 kW total): FLC ≈ 102A. Already at the top of MCB range — use 100A WiFi breaker or move to MCCB.

For loads above 100A you cannot use a WiFi breaker at all — move to a molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) with a separate smart controller. Above 100A is also where the arc energy becomes dangerous enough that you need a higher breaking capacity than the 6kA of a standard MCB.

Installation — 3-Phase WiFi Breaker Step by Step

3-phase breaker installation is more involved than single-phase because you are dealing with 400V line-to-line voltage and four conductors instead of two. If you are not confident with 3-phase wiring, call a licensed electrician.

  1. Isolate the supply completely. Trip the upstream source. Test all three lives and neutral with a voltmeter to confirm zero voltage. Never trust a single test on one phase — check all four.
  2. Open the DB box or panel. Remove the cover, take photos of existing wiring routing including phase colour codes. In Pakistan the standard is red-yellow-blue for L1-L2-L3, but older installations sometimes use non-standard colours so photograph before disconnecting.
  3. Remove the existing 3P or 4P MCB. Disconnect all four conductors (or three if upgrading from 3P to 4P). Release the breaker from the DIN rail.
  4. Mount the 4P WiFi breaker. A 4P unit takes 4 modules of DIN rail space (72mm). Make sure you have room — some older DB boxes may need rearrangement.
  5. Wire the incoming side to the top terminals. L1 → terminal 1, L2 → terminal 3, L3 → terminal 5, N → terminal 7. Use the same phase colour assignments as the rest of the panel for consistency.
  6. Wire the outgoing side to the bottom terminals. L1 out → 2, L2 out → 4, L3 out → 6, N out → 8. Double-check which terminals are input vs output — some breakers can only handle current flow in one direction for the energy meter to work correctly.
  7. Torque every screw firmly using a proper screwdriver. Loose terminals on 3-phase are the top cause of arc faults and panel fires. Go around twice — install once, then re-tighten after 10 minutes because copper wires can settle slightly.
  8. Close the panel, restore power, test manually first. Use the front lever to switch on the breaker. Confirm all three phases are live at the load side with a meter. Measure line-to-line to get 400V and line-to-neutral to get 230V.
  9. Pair with the Tuya Smart app. Hold the pairing button for 5 seconds, wait for the WiFi LED to blink fast, add in the app. The app will auto-detect that it's a 4P unit and show per-phase current and voltage readings.
  10. Test remote operation. Switch off from the app, confirm the load stops. Switch back on. Do this at least twice before leaving site.

Common 3-Phase Installation Mistakes

  • Wiring only 3 of 4 terminals on a 4P breaker. Yes, a 4P unit still "works" with only L1, L2, L3 connected — but the neutral is floating, energy metering is wrong, and the breaker cannot fully isolate the load during a trip. Always wire all four.
  • Reversing phase rotation. L1-L2-L3 rotation matters for motors — reversing it makes a 3-phase motor spin backwards. If the pump or motor runs the wrong way after installation, swap any two phases at the breaker input.
  • Connecting single-phase loads to only one phase of a 4P breaker. This unbalances the panel and defeats the point of having 3-phase. Use single-phase WiFi breakers for single-phase loads, and 4P for actual 3-phase loads.
  • Using undersized conductors. The cable feeding a 4P 100A breaker needs to be rated for 100A per phase. A 6mm² cable is not enough — you need 16mm² to 25mm² depending on cable run length and type.
  • Skipping the neutral bar connection. Even with a 4P breaker, the outgoing neutral should bond to the main neutral bus for the panel, not just float. Missing this breaks earth-fault loops on any downstream single-phase circuit sharing the neutral.

3-Phase Specific Features to Look For

  • Per-phase current monitoring. Good 4P WiFi breakers show current on L1, L2, and L3 separately in the app. This is critical for catching phase imbalance, which slowly destroys 3-phase motors.
  • Phase failure detection. If one phase goes missing (which happens often in Pakistan during switchyard faults), a quality 4P breaker detects it and trips to prevent single-phase running of 3-phase motors.
  • Per-phase voltage display. See L1-N, L2-N, L3-N individually. Uneven voltages indicate distribution problems on the grid side.
  • Total kWh integration. The app should sum all three phases and give a single daily/monthly kWh number, not just per-phase readings.
  • Overload and leakage trip logging. Every time the breaker trips, it should log the reason with timestamp in the app history. This helps diagnose intermittent problems.

FAQs

Can I use a 1P or 2P WiFi breaker on a 3-phase circuit?

No. For a true 3-phase load you must use a 4P (or minimum 3P) breaker. Using a single-pole breaker on one phase of a 3-phase supply creates a dangerous situation where the other two phases stay live while you think the circuit is off.

Is a 3P breaker enough or do I need 4P?

3P is enough for pure 3-phase loads like isolated 3-phase motors where the neutral is not used. For anywhere the neutral carries current — mixed loads, building mains, solar inverter outputs, TN-C-S earthing systems — use 4P for full isolation.

What's the maximum amp rating for a 3-phase WiFi breaker in Pakistan?

CNC 4P WiFi breakers go up to 100A. Above that you need a 3P or 4P MCCB which is not available as a WiFi smart breaker in Pakistan right now — you would pair a manual MCCB with a separate smart controller.

Can I use a 3-phase WiFi breaker with a single-phase tube well?

Technically yes but it is wasteful. A single-phase pump should use a 2P WiFi breaker, not a 4P. Use a 4P only when the pump itself is 3-phase.

Does the 4G backup version work in rural Pakistan?

Yes, assuming there is cellular coverage from any major carrier (Jazz, Zong, Ufone, Telenor). Insert any standard 4G data SIM with an active plan. The breaker uses cellular only as a fallback when WiFi is down.

Can I monitor individual phases separately in the Tuya app?

Yes. The CNC 4P WiFi breakers expose per-phase voltage, current, and power draw in the Tuya Smart app. Very useful for catching phase imbalance or a failing motor winding before it burns out.

How does the 3-phase WiFi breaker handle phase failure?

If one of the three phases drops (a very common issue in Pakistan during WAPDA switching faults), the breaker detects the missing phase and cuts all three. This protects 3-phase motors from running on two phases, which is how you burn out a motor in under 10 minutes.

Do I need a neutral wire for a 3-phase breaker?

For a 4P breaker, yes — the neutral must be wired. For a 3P breaker, no — it switches only the three lives.

Can I install a 3-phase WiFi breaker myself?

If you have experience working on 3-phase panels, yes. If you have never wired a 3-phase circuit before, hire a licensed electrician. The voltages involved (400V line-to-line) are dangerous and small mistakes can cause panel fires or fatal shocks.

What warranty is included?

All CNC 4P WiFi breakers ship with a 5-year replacement warranty for manufacturing defects. Warranty claims handled locally in Pakistan, replacement units shipped same-day from our Lahore warehouse.
