Diesel is expensive and the grid is unreliable — which is exactly why solar tubewells have taken over irrigation across Punjab and Sindh. At the centre of every one of those systems is a solar pump inverter, and the CNC YCB2200PV is a purpose-built one. It converts the DC power from your solar array into the three-phase AC your pump motor needs, and it does it intelligently: as sunlight rises and falls through the day, the drive continuously adjusts the pump speed to extract the most water possible from the panels you have.

What the YCB2200PV solar pump drive does

A solar pumping system is really three parts: the panels, the drive/inverter, and the pump. The YCB2200PV is the drive — the brain in the middle. Solar panels feed DC power in; the drive's MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) squeezes the most power out of that array in real time; and the drive outputs variable-frequency three-phase AC to spin the pump at whatever speed the available sun allows. On a bright afternoon it runs the pump near full power; in early morning or under cloud it runs it gently rather than stalling. No battery bank sits in the middle, because irrigation only needs to happen while the sun is up.

The YCB2200PV comes in two branches — S models (150–450 V DC input, 220–240 V output) and T models (250–900 V DC input, 380–440 V output). Most Pakistani tubewells use a three-phase pump, so the T branch is the common choice.

Built-in protections

A pump running unattended in a field needs to protect itself. The YCB2200PV includes protection against surge, over-voltage and under-voltage, locked pump, open circuit, short circuit, overheating, and dry running. The dry-run protection matters most — it stops the pump automatically when the water level drops, preventing the burnt-out motor that ruins so many tubewell pumps.

What this is (and isn't)

The YCB2200PV is the drive only — the inverter that runs the pump from solar. It does not include the solar panels, the pump, the mounting structure or the cabling; those are matched around it. If you're speed-controlling a mains-powered motor rather than solar pumping, you want a general-purpose VFD like the CNC YCB600 instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert my existing tube well to solar with this drive?

Yes — that's the most common use. If you already have a three-phase pump, the YCB2200PV plus a matched solar array lets it run on sunlight instead of diesel or grid. Send us the pump's kW/HP and we'll size the drive and panels.

Does a solar pump drive need batteries?

No. It runs the pump directly from the panels while the sun is up, which is when irrigation is needed. Skipping the battery bank is what makes solar pumping so cost-effective and low-maintenance.

What size do I need for a 5 HP or 10 HP tubewell?

A 5 HP (≈4 kW) three-phase pump uses the T4D0G; a 10 HP (≈7.5 kW) pump uses the T7D5G. Use the sizing table above to match your pump, or message us with the details.

Does it work on cloudy days?

Yes, at reduced output. The MPPT extracts whatever power the panels produce and runs the pump more slowly in weak light rather than stopping, so you still get water — just less of it than at midday.

What does MPPT do?

Maximum Power Point Tracking continuously finds the voltage at which your solar array delivers the most power as sun and temperature change, so the pump always runs at the best speed the panels can support. The YCB2200PV tracks up to 99% of available power.

Does it protect the pump from running dry?

Yes. Built-in dry-run protection stops the pump when the water level falls too low, preventing the motor damage that dry running causes. It also protects against locked pump, over/under-voltage, short circuit and overheating.

Can it run on grid or generator when there's no sun?

Yes — it accepts single- or three-phase AC backup input, so the same pump can run from the grid or a generator when solar isn't available.

What's the difference between the S and T models?

S models take 150–450 V DC and output 220–240 V for smaller/single-phase-output setups; T models take 250–900 V DC and output 380–440 V three-phase, which suits most standard tubewell pumps in Pakistan.
