Sizing a motor starter? Match the starter to the motor's kW and starting profile — the selection guide below is your starting point, but always confirm on site.

Industrial buyers in Pakistan choose the CNC YCQD7 intelligent integrated star-delta starter when they need to start a large three-phase motor without hammering the supply with a full direct-on-line inrush. It packs the main, star and delta contactors, an intelligent controller and the auxiliary contacts into one compact module — the smooth star-to-delta start that used to need three separate contactors plus a timer, now factory-integrated. This listing is the Z (multifunctional) type, which adds a full motor-protection suite and an on-board display.

What This Product Does

A big squirrel-cage motor started direct-on-line pulls 6–8× its rated current for the first few seconds. On a Pakistani supply — especially on a genset or a weak rural feeder — that inrush trips breakers, dips the voltage for everything else, and stresses the motor windings and couplings. A star-delta starter cuts that starting current to roughly one-third by first connecting the motor windings in star (each winding sees only 58% of line voltage), then switching to delta for full-voltage running once the motor is up to speed.

The YCQD7 does this automatically: energise the 220 V control coil and the intelligent controller closes the main + star contactors for the reduced-voltage start, waits out the adjustable star time, then drops the main contactor and re-closes with the delta contactor for normal running. On the Z version, the controller also watches the motor continuously and trips on overload, locked rotor, phase loss, three-phase imbalance, and over/under-voltage — showing the fault on its display so your operator knows why it stopped.

Where It Fits Best in Pakistan

This starter is relevant for buyers in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Peshawar running larger motor loads — flour and feed mills, water and irrigation pumps, compressors, crushers, blowers and industrial fans. Anywhere a 40–120 HP motor is started against the line, a star-delta starter protects both the supply and the motor. Pair it with an upstream MCCB for short-circuit protection and, where the motor is remote, a local isolator switch for safe maintenance.

Selection Guide

Motor Recommended variant Why
Up to ~60 HP / 45 kW 45 kW (65 A frame) Covers most mill and pump motors in this band with headroom
~60–75 HP / 55 kW 55 kW (85 A frame) Mid-range crushers, blowers, larger pumps
~100 HP / 75 kW 75 kW (110 A frame) Large mill mains, big compressors and fans
Motor must be startable during a wiring fault (fire pump) Ask for the "S" mechanical-emergency type Adds a manual forced-start lever

Sizing must match the motor nameplate current and its starting profile — confirm on site with your electrician before ordering.

How to Install

  • Installation must be done by a licensed electrician or qualified panel technician.
  • Fit an upstream short-circuit device (fuse NH1-125 or an MCCB) — the starter does not include short-circuit protection.
  • Bring the six motor leads out (both ends of all three windings) to the starter's motor terminals — star-delta needs all six.
  • Feed the 220 V control voltage to the coil terminals; set the star run-time and protection thresholds on the display.
  • Confirm rotation, then test the star→delta changeover on no load before committing the drive.

What This Product Does NOT Do

A star-delta starter softens the start only — it does not give variable running speed (for that you need a VFD). It has no built-in short-circuit protection, so it always needs an upstream fuse or MCCB, and it is not an isolator — add a separate disconnect for safe maintenance. The star-to-delta transition is a step change, so there is a brief torque dip at changeover; for a completely smooth ramp choose an electronic soft starter.

Star-Delta vs Soft Starter vs VFD

Feature Star-Delta (this) Soft Starter (YCQR) VFD (YCB600)
Reduces start inrush Yes (step to ⅓) Yes (smooth ramp) Yes (frequency ramp)
Variable running speed No No Yes
Transition Step (brief dip) Smooth Smooth
Relative cost Lowest Mid Highest
Best for Big motors needing a gentle, low-cost start Where a smoother start matters Anything needing speed control

CNC vs Schneider vs Local Assembly

Feature CNC YCQD7 Premium brands Loose contactors + timer
Build One integrated, tested module Integrated, premium price 3 contactors + timer, site-wired
Motor protection Built in (Z type) Built in Add a separate relay
Price in Pakistan Strong value Much higher Cheap parts, more labour + wiring faults
Warranty 5-year Channel dependent None on the assembly

Cross-Category Recommendations

If you're buying this starter, also consider an upstream MCCB for short-circuit protection, a local isolator switch at the motor, and a DIN power supply for control voltage. For speed-controlled loads see our VFD range; for a smoother start see our soft starters.

FAQs

What size YCQD7 do I need for my motor?

Match the starter to the motor's kW and full-load current. As a guide: up to ~45 kW use the 65 A frame, ~55 kW the 85 A frame, and ~75 kW the 110 A frame. Always confirm against the motor nameplate and starting profile on site.

Does it need six wires from the motor?

Yes. Star-delta starting brings both ends of all three windings out, so the motor must have six leads available at its terminal box (delta-connectable at line voltage).

Does it include short-circuit protection?

No. Fit an upstream fuse (NH1-125) or an MCCB. The YCQD7 handles starting and motor protection; the upstream device handles short circuits.

How is it different from a soft starter or VFD?

Star-delta softens the start in one step and is the most economical option. A soft starter ramps more smoothly; a VFD adds full variable-speed control. None of the three is "better" — you choose by whether you need speed control (VFD), a smooth ramp (soft starter), or a low-cost gentle start (star-delta).

Can a normal electrician install it?

A licensed electrician or qualified panel technician should install and commission it, including the upstream protection, the six motor leads, and the star-time / protection settings on the display.

Is it available across Pakistan?
